Magnet schools offer parents increased choice in their child’s education by providing a concentrated theme that offers innovative ways to meet students’ learning goals through a particular focus. While giving parents increased choice, our magnet schools still provide the district’s core curriculum in the areas of science, math, language arts and social studies. For more information about magnet schools go to District 196 Magnet Schools.
As leaders, we nurture our unique identities and collaborate to improve our community. Students at Echo Park learn skills from the Leader in Me program that help them become leaders in the school and broader community. Leadership opportunities are part of each classroom and school-wide such as Student Council, Leadership Ambassadors, EP News Team, Safety Patrol, and more.
As engineers, we creatively solve problems through a design process to improve our community. As early as Kindergarten, students are introduced to a variety of engineering fields while learning to collaborate through design challenges. Engineering is Elementary (EiE) curriculum is infused within core literacy, math, and science curriculum. Students work with different engineers from the community to solve real-world design problems.
As digital citizens, we utilize and create technology to improve and transform our community and world. Echo Park students learn to code by using apps and robotics to create programs. A variety of technology tools are used to help students create projects, collaborate, and solve problems throughout their learning.
Echo Park is part of District 196 STEM Pathway. This pathway begins at the elementary level grounding students in design thinking then continues to provide students with inquiry-based learning at Valley Middle School of STEM and then to Apple Valley High School with opportunities for deep learning and internships within various STEM fields.
Echo Park is part of the National Magnet Schools of America community.
