Dear Echo Park Families:
At Echo Park, we work hard to ensure students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch each day to support their developing brains and bodies. Research shows that children who eat regular, nutritious meals are more likely to attend school and be engaged in learning.
We are excited to collaborate again this year with The Sheridan Story to offer a free weekend food program to all of our students.
The Sheridan Story is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization with a mission to fight child hunger through community and school partnerships. They strive to make a difference in children’s lives by focusing on food gaps like weekends, school breaks, and summer when children cannot receive meals in school.
· Free for all families
· No qualifications required to receive food
· Students/families will receive a 4-5 pound bag of non-perishable food each week
· The Sheridan Story does not collect information from families: privacy is protected
· Families may participate any time during the school year
The Sheridan Story weekend bags will be available for pick-up on Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00, the same time and at the same location as the District’s 5-day grab and go breakfast/lunch boxes for 196 Digital Academy participants. 196 Digital Academy families participating in the District’s 5-day breakfast and lunch box pick-up, please let the outside staff know you are also interested in receiving one of the Sheridan bags and they will grab a bag for you. Families enrolled in our Hybrid/Cohort option may participate in the weekend program as well. Your children will have the opportunity to grab a bag at dismissal on their last school day of the week. We will have tables set up at our student exits. Please let your child know you would like them to participate and to grab a bag on their way out. (Siblings may also grab a bag) Currently we will have Blue (pork free), Green (general non-perishables) and Yellow Bags (ready to eat items requiring little preparation) available. Please contact our School Social Worker, Mrs. Robson if you have additional questions. (952-431-8396)
